This Etna wine tour is an unmissable experience for any food and wine lovers. The tour includes a guided trek of a series of craters, a visit to a cave and finally a tasting of some fine Etna wines which are produced on the slopes of the northern side of the volcano. The portion of the volcano that we will visit with this Etna wine tasting tour overlooks the north side with a breathtaking view of Taormina and the Mediterranean sea. The exposure of the wineyards rich in minerals nestled between the sea and the volcano give the Etna wines a complexity that is reflected on the palate with hints of tobacco, floral notes, wild berries and in the ruby red color. The Etna white wines that you will taste are crispy and reflect the fresh minerality of the volcanic soil. The maximum number of participants never exceeds eight units.

Escursion Details

This Mount Etna wine tour start at 9 am when a guide will pick you up. After fifty minutes we will make the first stop in a moutain chalet for a coffe break. The hike will begin on ancient lava flows, we will cross a pine and birch forest before reaching the top of a series of UNESCO world heritage craters, from where the view ranges from Etna's active craters to the Etna vineyards and hills of Taormina, one of the most amazing views that Sicily can offer. Before heading to the winery, equipped with torches and helmets, we will visit a cave where the guide will explain some history and geology.

WINE TASTING

The next stop of this exciting wine tour will be at the winery where you can relax and enjoy the rural landscape of vineyards surrounded by the charm of the volcanic soil and the view of the Alcantara valley.

The menu includes four wines produced in the Etna DOC district, a plate of cheeses and preserves in olive oil produced by local farmers and a pasta-based first course. Finally, a ricotta-based dessert in the tradition of Sicilian cuisine cannot be missing.

Questions and Answers

How shall I dress for this Tour?

Between November and May heavy clothing is Paramount. We recommend wearing winter trousers, waterproof shoes, a good sweater, a jacket, gloves, and a hat. Bring always a pair of extra wool socks in the rucksack just in case you will get your shoes wet, you do not want to freeze your feet.

From June until October you can opt for lighter clothing, but carry always a jacket and a pair of trekking boots. Lava rocks are sharp as razors.
