This full-day trip is among the best Mount Etna tours available from Taormina. This Etna tour packs in a single day an easy hike to the beautiful Sartorius craters, a visit to an Etna lava Cave, and after lunch, a tour to the Alcantara River Park and the stunning canyon. Here we will walk inside the first hundred meters of this impressive Gorge to marvel at the high canyon walls displaying some fantastic shapes. Escursion Details

This Mount Etna hiking tour departs from Taormina and Giardini Naxos around 8.30 a.m. An English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel. On the way to the volcano, we will drive through two Mountain Villages. Before we start our walk, we will stop for a coffee break in a beautiful chalet where we will provide you with trekking boots and walking poles. The four kilometers long hike winds through a beautiful forest before climbing to the summit of Mount Etna's most famous craters, listed in the UNESCO world heritage. Wearing a helmet and with a torch, we will descend into a lava cave where the guide will explain the geology and history of this Italian Volcano. Lunch we'll be served inside a mountain chalet surrounded by a lush pine forest. In the afternoon, our Etna and Alcantara tour will be heading towards the Alcantara river. The return to Giardini Naxos and Taormina is a schedule between four and five o clock in the afternoon.

How shall I dress for this Etna tour?

The recommended clothing to visit Mt. Etna varies according to the season.

Between November and May heavy clothing is Paramount. We recommend wearing winter trousers, waterproof shoes, a good sweater, a jacket, gloves, and a hat. Bring always a pair of extra wool socks in the rucksack just in case you will get your shoes wet, you do not want to freeze your feet.
From June until October you can opt for lighter clothing, but carry always a jacket and a pair of trekking boots. Lava rocks are sharp as razors.

How shall I dress for the Alcantara Gorges?

If you visit the Alcantara Gorges between November and April stick to the cloths you wore on Mount Etna
From May untill October bring a pair of flip flops or river shoes, a pair of shorts and a towel.
